The Game
by Anvar Nazarov · 2025
A miniature vertical artwork created in the rare technique of straw mosaic using pyrography (heat treatment) — a distinctive craft practiced by only a handful of masters in Uzbekistan. It depicts a cheerful boy wearing a traditional skullcap, sitting on the ground and playing with alphabet blocks while lifting one cube up. Against a deep blue background, the figure of the child, his clothing, and the blocks come to life with striking three-dimensionality, achieved through the meticulous burning of natural straw fibers to produce shimmering golden, ochre, and brown tones. Framed in dark wood with a gold-ochre mat, this delicate 20x24 cm piece is designed to be appreciated up close, making it a charming and intimate addition to any wall.
