Caravan

This miniature artwork is a fine example of the centuries-old traditional Uzbek "Kundji" (Kundal) style. The technique is distinguished by its thick, textured, and embossed relief patterns, complemented by shimmering gilded highlights. The piece depicts a tiny caravan winding through an endless desert at night, featuring loaded camels and travelers in traditional attire. A bright full moon at the center of the sky gently illuminates the surroundings and the silhouettes of an ancient city in the distance. The nocturnal darkness is rendered in the dense, textured manner characteristic of the Kundji style, where tiny white and light blue stars symbolize inner hope and devotion. The thick, dark greyish-blue impasto brushstrokes give the artwork depth and an ancient, timeless charm.
